The aim of restorative practices is to develop community and to manage conflict and tensions by repairing harm and building relationships. It can provide a forum whereby those most directly affected by wrongdoing come together to determine what needs to be done to repair the harm and prevent a reoccurrence. It allows the act to be rejected, whilst acknowledging the intrinsic worth of the person and their potential contribution to society.

The project will look:

- For the practitioners and organisations to provide an explicit framework in relation to their practice which aims at improving relationships on the grounds of values shared by the community;

- To target challenging attitudes and behaviour ultimately aiming at addressing and repairing conflict and any harm caused.

- To provide a common vocabulary both in ethos and actions for the organisations and professionals involved in different services.

- Staff working in the target areas will be trained in restorative practices to deliver on the outcomes stated above. The particular expertise of both regions will mutually develope practice.

WORKING ON GOOD PRACTICES FOR POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS PAYS OFF!



 

For the teachers of the school Gabriel Vallseca in  Son Gotleu the greatest reward is seeing the children of virtually all races play together at recess. The public school, located in the most contentious of Palma with more than 30% of foreign students, is known for promoting social cohesion and integration between the various cultures that converge here. And now the staff has been rewarded his effort with an official award from the European Union, the OEI (Organization of American States) for the Ministry of Education and Immigration.
 
Other state primary schools and high schools in Son Gotleu must also be congratulated, as their efforts are similar and are part of the education commission awarded with the second award "Coexistence and Neighborhood".  The project presented is to develop good practices  in the neighborhood, both inside and outside schools, "through the education of students and families, consensus and common goals" lists.

In fact, the Organization of Iberoamerican States for Education regrets that "coexistence between immigrants and natives is currently experiencing serious difficulties. In recent months a number of social conflicts have highlighted  in neighborhoods or municipalities with a high rate of immigration" and for this reason it has promoted Coexistence and Neighborhood Awardto seek "different proposals," "gather good practices being carried out" and get these models to be transferred to other areas of everyday life, as indicated by the OEI.
 
The supranational institution believes that "working for conflict resolution in school and social context of students" is "associated with working in the neighborhood or community." It adds that "integration in the school and the educational system measures are only one part to achieve a society based on respect and tolerance, and against social exclusion. Therefore, it is important to cover the different fields part of social life and connect different areas and then work toward a common goal together. "
